Man Struck By Vehicle On Highway 273 Identified

A pedestrian who was killed while trying to cross Highway 273 in South Redding three weeks ago has been identified by the Shasta County Coroner’s Office as 44-year-old Victor Becerra Salazar of Redding. At around 7 O’clock the night of February 20th, Salazar was crossing the highway from the west to the east just north of Branstetter Lane. He was wearing all black clothing and there’s very little lighting in that area. A 2003 Hyundai Elantra came along northbound and the driver didn’t see Salazar in time. He was struck and flew over the top of the car, landing on the roadway. When Redding Police arrived they attempted CPR but Salazar was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers said the driver was absolutely sober. Next of kin was notified and a post-mortem exam was done.
