An early season Forest Fire in Trinity County began as a controlled burn. The Sims Restoration Project Area prescribed burn got away from the Forest Service Tuesday afternoon and is now dubbed the Grape Fire. It’s located about 10 miles north of Hayfork near Grapevine Creek. It’s estimated to be about 150 acres with 10% containment. No structures are threatened, according to the Forest Service. Hand crews and dozers are being used to build a line around the fire. The public should be cautious of fire engines on Hyampom Road and South Fork Road. Priorities are to protect people, as well as water systems and some major PG&E transmission lines.
