Forest Service Crews Say Escaped Controlled Burn Is 30% Contained

A half inch of rain helped firefighters battling an early season blaze in Trinity County. The Sims Restoration Project Area Prescribed Burn got away from the Forest Service last Tuesday afternoon and is now called the Grape Fire. It’s located about 10 miles north of Hayfork near Grapevine Creek. It’s estimated to be about 234 acres with 30% containment. No structures are threatened, according to the Forest Service. Hand crews and dozers are being used to build a line around the fire. Although the rain helped slow the fire, it also has caused problems with driving and navigating the steep terrain. The public should be cautious of fire engines on Hyampom Road and South Fork Road. Some major PG&E transmission lines run through the area, and firefighters are trying to protect them.
