An ATM smash and grab very early Tuesday morning in Cottonwood and a stolen utility truck found ablaze nearby may be related events, according to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. At 3:40AM a panic alarm sent deputies to the Tri-Counties Bank on Main Street in Cottonwood. when they arrived they found the bank’s ATM machine on the ground in front of the bank. Its cash cases were missing. Deputies quickly reviewed surveillance footage, which showed a large utility truck ramming the ATM. Two suspects were seen. They were dressed in dark clothing and appear to be white men. While deputies were processing the scene, a call was made for Cottonwood Fire to respond to the JF Shea gravel plant on Trade Way in Cottonwood for a large utility truck on fire. The truck, belonging to Headrick Logging, was stolen earlier in the morning from in front of the Anderson home of an employee of that company. Detectives aren’t going to say how much money was taken.
