A candidate for the California State Assembly is making a run at history. Caleen Sisk, Chief of the Winnemum Wintu Tribe, has received the second highest number of votes for the assembly seat held by Brian Dahle, meaning she has advanced to the November general election. Returns show Sisk with 23% of the vote and Dahle with 65%. Dahle is the assembly minority leader and has the full backing of the Republican party, so it’s an uphill battle for Sisk as she launches the second leg of her campaign. She says she aims to narrow the gap between the rich and the extreme poor. If she wins in November, she would be the first Native American woman in the history of the California Legislature.
