California Lawmakers Denounce Border Separations As Cruel

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – California lawmakers are denouncing the Trump administration’s practice of separating children from their parents at the border. A bipartisan group of lawmakers in the state Assembly condemned the practice Monday during a floor debate on a resolution proclaiming World Refugee Day. Assemblywoman Wendy Carrillo called the practice “inhumane.” The Los Angeles Democrat said her own family fled violence in El Salvador. She urged her fellow lawmakers to ensure people escaping war can find refuge in the United States.Assemblyman Rocky Chavez of Oceanside harshly criticized members of his own Republican Party in Washington. He said they’re using children as leverage to force legislative action on immigration reform.
