A Red Bluff woman has been given probation for killing the father of her child. On March 9th of last year, Tehama County Deputies were dispatched to Pettyjohn Road near Cannon Road west of Red Bluff, where they found 51-year-old David Michael Martin dead from multiple gunshot wounds. After identifying him, detectives went to the nearby home of 38-year-old Brandy Irene Conklin. She admitted to them that she had shot Martin dead. She said the two of them had been in a relationship and separated three weeks earlier. They had a 3-year-old son together and she had arranged to meet him at the Pettyjohn Road location so they could discuss visitation of the child, who was not with her at the time. What she did have with her was her loaded .357 magnum. The two got into an argument that ended with Martin’s death. Conklin claimed self defense and entered a guilty plea last month to voluntary manslaughter. She’s been sentenced to 5 years formal probation, with credit for time served in jail.
