A man was killed early Sunday morning when his pickup truck left Highway 36 and tumbled down a steep hill. A little after 4AM the Chevy Colorado pickup was traveling at a high rate of speed just east of the Trinity County / Shasta County line when the driver failed to make a curve and launched off the embankment, according to CHP Sergeant Annie Garcia. The truck landed at the base of a hill at least a hundred feet off the road. The driver was declared dead at the scene. A gun was found on the ground nearby, but the man apparently was a hunter and the gun had simply fallen from the truck during the rollover. His name will be released after his family is contacted.
