Fiery Crash Leaves 2 Dead, Sparks 30 Acre Fire

Two people were killed east of Bella Vista Sunday when they crashed and their car caught fire. The Honda was westbound on Highway 299 near Woodman Drive when it left the roadway and crashed into a culvert, then burst into flames. Both occupants died. They were apparently an older couple. The Coroner’s Office will release the names of the victims after family is notified. A witness said the car had been swerving prior to the crash, but CHP Sergeant Annie Garcia does not believe it had been speeding. The car fire spread to dry grass and brush and continued to grow, eventually burning an estimated 30 acres and threatening nearby homes.
