A quick moving fire burned very close to homes at the northeast edge of Redding late Monday afternoon. It was in the mutual threat zone, so a combined effort of Cal-Fire and Redding Fire Department resources were used. The blaze broke out just before 5 O’clock off Abernathy Lane north of Viking Way. It may have started with a vehicle fire, but that’s still under investigation. Cal-Fire Battalion Chief Brandon Lanning says the fire was fast, but firefighters were just a little faster. The blaze scorched about 2.5 acres of Oak woodland. It was at first reported that a structure was involved, but that apparently wasn’t so. One resident suffered burns to his hands while trying to extinguish the fire.
