Carr Fire Grows To Over 167-Thousand Acres

Crews battling the Carr Fire had some good news and bad news Monday. There was a lot of smoke hanging low over the region, meaning a lack of wind and reduced fire activity. On the other hand, it also meant aircraft were unable to work much and the smoky conditions make manual labor all the more difficult. That difficulty is compounded by extremely steep hillsides and thick stands of timber. The Carr Fire now covers 167,113 acres and it’s 47% contained. 1,077 homes have been lost, along with 22 commercial structures and 500 other buildings. 191 homes and 26 commercial structures have been damaged. The number of threatened structures has gone back up, now estimated at 1806. There are more than 4,700 personnel working the fire with 388 engines from 17 states, along with 115 water tenders, 15 helicopters and 120 dozers. Air tankers are flying as conditions allow.
