Man Arrested After Stealing Generator From Firefighting Base Camp

A Redding man on probation for stealing was captured after attempting a brazen theft from the Carr Fire base camp at the fairgrounds in Anderson. Tuesday a man arrived on a bicycle and stole a generator that was being used to run lights at a firefighter sleeping area. The thief tried to sneak the generator out by hiding it in a rolling trash bin. Personnel on scene were not fooled, and they confronted the man. He left the generator behind and fled the scene. Anderson Police, Sheriff’s Deputies and a CHP helicopter searched the neighborhood and found 41-year-old Corey Dean Lee trying to hide in an abandoned building on Alexander Avenue. There was a struggle as lee was taken into custody. Police say he eventually admitted to being the generator thief. He’s charged with grand theft, looting during a state of emergency and resisting arrest.
