Hirz Fire Continues To Grow, Hat Fire Now 75% Contained

The Hirz Fire at Lake Shasta has grown to 5689 acres. The Forest Service is the lead agency on the incident that began early Thursday morning off of Gilman Road on the McCloud Arm of the lake. The fire continues to spread mostly to the north and to the west. Dozers are trying to cut a contingency line between Gilman and Hirz Mountain Roads. The Hirz Fire is still just 5% contained. 8 homes are under evacuation orders.

Firefighters working very steep hillsides are getting a line around the Hat Fire. Located between Burney and Fall River Mills, the Hat Fire started Thursday and forced evacuations and the closure of Highway 299. All evacuations and road closures have been lifted and power has been restored. The Hat Fire is still 1900 acres and is now 75% contained.
