CHP: Intoxicated Driver Crashes Pickup, Injures Passenger

A driver’s intoxicated condition is suspected of contributing to his death Friday night near the Shasta/Lassen County line. At around 10PM, 37-year-old James Clair of Spaulding was northbound on Little Valley Road south of Pittville Road with 40-year-old Angel Thompson of Susanville as a passenger. The CHP says he was driving a 2001 Dodge 1500 pickup at high speed when he lost control on a curve. The truck went off the road, then back across to the other side, where it hit the dirt shoulder and rolled over several times. Clair was not wearing his seatbelt and he was ejected during the rollover and killed. Thompson was wearing her seatbelt and she was flown to Mercy Medical Center in Redding with moderate injuries.
