Parts Of Whiskeytown Recreation Area Open As Carr Fire Recovery Continues

More than a month after closing the headquarters office at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, the doors are open again. As with many others, park employees suffered losses from the Carr Fire, including 13 employees who lost their homes. The park itself suffered major damage with 39,000 of its 42,000 acres succumbing to the flames. That’s about 93 percent of the park’s land. Although there’s a lot of work to do, the visitor center is open, as well as day use at the Whiskey Creek Boat Ramp and picnic area, East Beach and the Shasta Divide Nature Trail. The majority of the park is still closed, as emergency repairs, cleanup and stabilization continues.
