Crews Work To Cleanup Trash Near Homeless Camp

Following a change in the Redding Municipal Code which will allow code enforcement officers to cite people for illegal camping and for recreational fires, Redding Police and California Fish and Wildlife Officers began to clean up a camp under the Cypress Avenue Bridge Tuesday. Nearly three tons of trash and human waste were collected in an effort to keep the items from going into the Sacramento River. Officers also removed some of the tents because they were below a high water mark, which makes them unsafe. Some of the homeless living there said they will simply move to another location and return to the bridge when all the activity is over.
