Shasta College Gets Training Towers

Two fire training towers have been completed at Shasta College as part of their regional public safety training center. The structures will allow fire trainees to learn various skills, such as how to attack a structure fire, perform victim searches and overhaul a building after a fire. Gas-fired props will mimic actual residential or commercial structure fires to provide realistic scenarios to make students better prepared for actual fires. A public ribbon cutting ceremony will take place February 13th at 4 O’clock. The construction was done with funds from bond measure H, approved by voters in 2016 to provide the Community College District with $139 million of funding, with a promise that the money would be in part focused on public safety. The money is also being used for various upgrades and repairs around the campus.
