Something more needs to be done about child abuse in Shasta County. Because such crimes occur most often behind closed doors, the numbers are staggering to those who don’t know. More than 30% of the Redding Police investigative resources go toward serving juvenile victims of physical and sexual abuse. Local law enforcement, social services and medical agencies are working toward creating a Children’s Legacy Center where any abused or neglected child, or witnesses to such abuse, can get the medical, emotional and legal help they need. April is Child Abuse Awareness Month. More information is at childrenslegacycenter.org or shastacapcc.org.
