Grant Will Fund Fire Break In Shasta Lake

The City of Shasta Lake will continue work on a fuel break on the north side of the city. The Western Shasta Resource Conservation District has received a $118,000 grant from the Forest Service, which will be matched by in-kind services from Cal-Fire. The money will be used to expand current fuel reduction efforts by removing brush and cutting down smaller trees. Trees more 8 inches in diameter will have branches less than 8 feet above the ground cut out. Removed vegetation will either be piled and burned or chipped and spread around the area as mulch.
