With extremely high water levels from recent storms, the wild and scenic Trinity River is a bit more wild than usual right now. Last Thursday afternoon a rafting mishap left two people clinging to a partially submerged tree in the middle of the river near Douglas City. Because of the extremely high level and rapid current, a coordinated rescue was organized. Trinity County Search and Rescue personnel positioned themselves just downriver of the stranded people, in case the initial rescue failed and they needed to intercept them. The rescue went well, though, as a CHP helicopter was used to hoist the two from the middle of the river to dry land. They were given medical attention at the scene and then transported by ambulance to the hospital. Six separate agencies assisted in the rescue.
