Trinity County Man Charged With Attempted Homicide After Shooting

A Burnt Ranch man has been arrested after shooting a man he said attacked him. Last Friday, 39-year-old Erik Windschitl called Trinity County Dispatch and told them he’d shot another man during an altercation. Arriving deputies found Windschitl with a black eye and the victim with 2 or 3 gunshot wounds. He was treated at a hospital and released. During the investigation, it was discovered that the 2 men had known each other for several years and lived on the same property where the incident took place. Windschitl initially said that the shooting happened inside the house; instead it took place in the backyard. Investigators say that the gunshot victim apparently slapped Windschitl before the shooting. As a result of the investigation, Winschitl has been charged with attempted homicide.
