Chico Man Arrested After 25 Mile Pursuit

A man reportedly led Tehama County Deputies and the CHP on a lengthy pursuit from Red Bluff into Butte County early Thursday morning. At 2:14AM a deputy on Highway 99 noticed a Chevy S-10 pickup that was straddling the fog line, and he pulled the truck over near Patterson Road. The driver, 52-year-old Charles Raymond Miller of Chico, apparently refused to identify himself at first or answer any questions. Eventually he handed the deputy a California ID Card, and a records check showed he was on Post Release Supervision for multiple DUI’S, had a suspended license, and had a curfew between 8PM and 6AM. The deputy told Miller to get out of the truck because he was going to give him a field sobriety check, but Miller reportedly put the truck into drive and accelerated away while the deputy was standing next to him. A high speed chase headed south on Highway 99 and continued for over 25 miles until Miller ran over a spike strip that the CHP laid across the roadway at Cana Highway. He was booked into jail for evading police and driving on a suspended license.
