Stabbing Suspect Arrested After Incident Outside Redding Bar

Redding Police have made an arrest in a stabbing outside a local bar more than a month ago. On April 27th, just after 2AM, Redding Police Officers responded to Shasta Regional Medical Center regarding two men who were suffering from significant stab wounds. Officers learned the stabbing occurred earlier that night at approximately 11:45PM, as the victims were leaving the Hen House Bar on Hartnell Avenue. The victims, 22-year-old Jacob Anae, and 21-year-old Eemetrius McGruder, said they were confronted by a Hispanic man in the parking lot as they were leaving the bar. A fight broke out and both men ended up with significant wounds to their faces, necks, chests, backs, hands and arms. Though badly injured, the men recovered from their wounds. Surveillance video led officers to a suspect, 39-year-old Juan Carlos Hernandez of Redding. An arrest warrant was obtained. Thursday morning at about 7:30AM, he was seen leaving a residence on Wingsetter Way. Hernandez was arrested and taken in for questioning. During the interview, Hernandez confessed to the stabbing, claiming it was self-defense because he had an injured hand and couldn’t protect himself any other way. Surveillance video from the night of the stabbing contradicted Hernandez’s statement. He was booked into the Shasta County Jail on charges of attempted murder and assault with a deadly weapon.
