Woman Arrested After Early Morning Stabbing

A woman was stabbed early Thursday morning at a Redding homeless camp, and an arrest has been made. At 3 O’clock Thursday morning 41-year-old Melody Gardiner walked into the Shasta Regional Medical Center emergency room bleeding heavily from stab wounds. Her injuries are severe, but apparently not life threatening. She told police that she had been camping in the Turtle Bay East area, located at the north end of Bechelli lane when she was attacked by a woman she had seen Wednesday. She didn’t know why she was attacked because she said she didn’t have any problems with the woman. She was able to tell officers the name “Margaret Brice”, because apparently the suspect was yelling her own name during the attack. Officers went looking for the 26-year-old suspect by backtracking from the crime scene toward Hilltop Drive. They soon located Brice on Churn Creek Road near Mistletoe Lane. She didn’t have a knife in her possession, but she had blood on her clothing consistent with the story told by Gardiner. Brice, who is on active parole, was booked into jail for attempted murder. Police are still investigating, and they say it appears that the two do, in fact, know each other more than Gardiner has revealed.
