Judge Rules Against Placing Violent Predator In Tehama County

A Humboldt County judge made a quick ruling Friday morning denying the placement of a man deemed to be a sexually violent predator in Tehama County. It’s the most recent effort to find a suitable place where Joshua Cooley can be safely monitored when released from Coalinga State Prison. The judge ruled against the placement after the site was proposed by Liberty Health, which will provide the monitoring once he’s released from state custody. Many community members and Tehama County District Attorney Matthew Rogers objected to the move. Another placement hearing has been scheduled for August 23rd at the request of Cooley’s defense attorney.
