Coroner ID’s Young Girl Killed In Crash, Fundraiser Planned For Family

The Shasta County Coroner’s Office has released the name of the little girl who tragically lost her life in a crash just east of Millville on Sunday, and the community of Whitmore is rallying around the family. Just after 10AM a Ford Excursion with a woman and her three daughters was westbound on Whitmore Road near Basin Hollow Road at around 70 miles an hour. The driver, 38-year-old Maryann Knutson of Whitmore, passed a slower vehicle but after returning to the westbound lane she lost control for unknown reasons, according to the CHP. The large SUV went back across the opposing lane, through a wire fence into a pasture, then rolled several times before coming to rest on its wheels. 9-year-old Sierra Knutson died of her injuries. Maryann and her 3-year-old daughter suffered major injuries and were transported to Mercy Medical Center, along with her 6-year-old daughter who sustained minor injuries. Apparently the father of the family, T.J. Knutson, works in the Mercy E.R. and was not aware of the accident until his wife and daughters arrived by ambulance. The CHP has determined that neither drugs nor alcohol contributed to this crash. A Whitmore Community Facebook page says Maryann has a broken neck that will likely result in paralysis to her lower extremities. A GoFundMe page is set to to help the Knutsons with the medical costs and a fundraiser potluck lunch will be held Sunday at 1 O’clock at the Whitmore Community Center.
