The Latest: Crews Contain Over 30 Lightning Sparked Fires

Forest Service Crews have defeated nearly all of the lightning fires that started over the weekend on the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. More than 700 lightning strikes resulted in a total of 33 known fires, many of them just single trees and many of them difficult to access. There’s still a 3.5 acre fire on the east side of Garden Ridge in the Lake Shasta area, and a 5.5 acre fire northeast of Sherer Ridge is 45% contained. More fires may still be smoldering and aerial reconnaissance flights are continuing.
