Over 1,000 Gallons Of Heated Emulsifier Spills Into Trinity County Creek Bed

The CHP has reported details on a messy crash in Trinity County. At 4:35PM Wednesday afternoon, a big rig hauling two tanker trailers left Highway 3 just north of Highway 36 and rolled over, apparently due to an unsafe turn. The driver, Joseph Landeros of Florida, was not injured, but the tanks contained 6,200 gallons of heated micro surfacing emulsifier. More than a thousand gallons of the sticky gooey petroleum slurry leaked from both tanks into a dry creek bed, through a culvert under the road and over 100 feet down the creek bed before firming up and stopping in standing water. Cleanup of the hazardous material is being handled by private contractors.
