Crews Working To Protect Janesville From Massive Dixie Fire

The 700,000 acre Dixie Fire continues to thwart the predictive efforts of fire managers as it torches canopies and starts spot fires well outside of control lines. Containment is still 35%. Crews are trying to defend Janesville and the Genesee Valley to the east and Lassen Park and Mineral to the west. Increasing fire activity has delayed repopulation of Westwood, but residents are returning to Chester and other areas on the west shore of Lake Almanor. More than 700 homes are confirmed destroyed, along with hundreds of commercial and other structures. 3 firefighters have been injured. There are around 6,000 personnel working the Dixie Fire. It started in the Feather River Canyon July 13th, apparently from a PG&E equipment failure.
