Platina Likely Spared From McFarland Fire

Crews continue making good progress on the McFarland Fire, which has burned more than 119,500 acres and is now 73% contained. At least 24 homes and 22 other structures have been destroyed. Solid containment lines have been completed in Beegum Gorge and crews will continue to strengthen those lines, and along Highway 36. A contingency line is being built on the northern side of the highway above Platina across Knob Peak. Highway 36 is closed from Harrison Gulch to Vestal Road. Evacuations remain in effect, including for Platina and all Shasta County homes from the Trinity County line to the Tehama County Line. Tehama County evacuations are west of Vestal and Weemasoul Roads to the Shasta County line and south of Highway 36.
