As COVID-19 infections continue to rise in Shasta County two more deaths are being reported by public health. They are a man in his 60’s and a man over the age of 89. 500 people have died from COVID-19 in Shasta County since the 1st death was reported in March of 2020. The county’s transmission rate hit a low of 71.6 per 100,000 people on December 27th. Data released on Tuesday shows the rate at 467.6 per 100,000 – more than six times what it was two weeks ago. There were 167 new cases confirmed on Monday for a total number of 724 active cases. 49 are in the hospital, with 12 in the ICU. For information on testing or vaccinations visit shastaready.org.
