A man arrested for the alleged robbery of a Redding bank is believed to be responsible for other bank robberies as well. On January 19th the Sierra Central Credit Union on Bechelli Lane was robbed by a man who got away after demanding cash from a teller. Redding Police detectives looked for similarities to other holdups and determined that the robber was the same as a man who robbed a bank in Central Point, Oregon on January 11th and another in Yuba City on January 20th. A vehicle was identified as being in the area of all three robberies, and Oregon State Police tied the vehicle to 52-year-old Thomas James West, who has a lengthy criminal history in Oregon and Washington. Photos of West matched surveillance photos from the robberies. The car was tracked to Las Vegas so RPD detectives contacted police there and West was in custody within 3 hours.
