13 COVID-19 Deaths Reported To End February

After no reported Covid deaths in over a week for Shasta County, 13 fatalities were reported over the weekend. Another 58 cases were confirmed for a total known number of 185, though the actual number in the community is unknown. There are 50 Coronavirus patients in the hospital, 8 of them in intensive care. The case rate has dropped to 134 per 100,000 people.

The governors of California, Oregon and Washington have announced that schoolchildren will no longer be required to wear masks starting March 12. The governors of the three states announced the measure in a joint statement as part of new indoor mask policies that come as Coronavirus case and hospitalization rates decline across the West Coast. The new guidance will make face coverings a recommendation rather than a requirement at schools and most indoor places regardless of vaccination status. Shasta County Public Health has posted the first of a series called “Ask the Experts”, a 30 minute video with nine local doctors answering questions about Covid. It can be found, along with information on testing, vaccinations and what to do if exposed, at shastaready.org.
