Supervisors Expected To Review COVID-19 Restrictions

The new majority bloc on the Shasta County Board of Supervisors will be flexing its muscles Tuesday. It’ll be the second meeting following the seating of Tim Garmin in the District 2 position two weeks ago after the recall of Leonard Moty. One of the first orders of business will be a vote to remove Mary Rickert from the Vice Chair position, presumably to be replaced by Patrick Jones. The board will also consider ending the local health emergency proclamation, rescinding the related proclamations and expressing the new majority opinion concerning Covid mandates. Another item deals with Covid mandates as they apply to county workers, which are set by the California Department of Public Health and which the county is required to follow. Employees who don’t comply cannot work at impacted facilities, but they can be reassigned elsewhere. Another item will mandate that board meetings be held in-person and that a majority of the board must approve of any supervisor, staff member or member of the public participating remotely, regardless of their reason for doing so.
