RPD: Passenger Extricated After DUI Crash In West Redding

A Redding man was jailed on felony drunk driving with injury after a rollover crash very early Friday morning. At around 1AM, police say 23-year-old Davin Chavez had a blood alcohol level almost three times the limit and was driving at high speed when his car left Placer Street near Cottonwood Avenue and struck a large boulder, causing it to roll over a number of times before coming to rest on its roof at the intersection of Placer and San Francisco Street. RPD Officers got there first and helped get Chavez out of the car, but his female passenger was trapped and had to be extricated by Redding Fire before she was taken to Mercy Hospital with serious injuries. Chavez, who had a suspended drivers license from a previous DUI, was taken to jail.
