Shasta County Unemployment Rate Falls Below 4% In April

Shasta County’s unemployment rate continues into unprecedented territory, with an April rate of 3.9%. That’s a far cry from the 13.4% of less than two years ago, in May of 2020. It’s also down from the march rate of 4.6%. Shasta County added 900 jobs, but 700 people dropped from the labor force. The leisure and hospitality sector has been sort of a bellwether for Shasta County job numbers because it crashed hard during the pandemic. That sector has recovered very nicely, according to Luis Alejo with the Employment Development Department.Tehama County had a 4.2% jobless rate last month. It was 3.9% in Trinity County and 5.2% in Siskiyou. It was 3.8% for the state and 3.3% nationwide.
