Officer Involved Shooting Slows Traffic On I-5 Near Lake Shasta On Thursday

The CHP closed Northbound Interstate 5 at Fawndale following an officer involved shooting Thursday afternoon in the Lake Shasta area. We’re told that a car crashed between Turntable Bay and the O’Brien Rest Area and caught fire at around 1:40PM. Officer Jason Morton says that when a CHP Officer rolled up on the scene, the driver of the crashed car came out shooting. Shots were apparently exchanged and it’s believed the suspect is dead, but the CHP has not confirmed that. Other law enforcement agencies will be handling the investigation because of the CHP involvement and the officer involved shooting protocol. After the CHP started escorting traffic though shortly before 5 O’clock, it still took a lot of time before traffic was moving smoothly.
