Four Siskiyou County law enforcement officers won’t face charges for shooting and killing a man last Summer at a wildfire checkpoint. 35-year old Soobleej Kaub Hawj of Kansas City, Kansas was driving a pickup loaded with guns and Marijuana when he apparently refused to stop for the checkpoint on June 24th last year. According to the District Attorneys Office, Hawj pulled a 45-caliber handgun on one officer, causing the other three to open fire. Hawj, who apparently had both Amphetamines and Methamphetamine in his system at the time was struck several times in the head, chest arms and legs. In addition to the Marijuana, and the handgun, officers reported finding another handgun, and a two loaded assault rifles in the vehicle. The shooting sparked allegations of racism against the department, and protests evolved when the sheriff decided to not allow residents of the Mt. Shasta Subdivision to truck in water, which the sheriff says was used to irrigate Marijuana gardens.
