Molestation Suspect and Victim’s Mother Both Arrested

A 29-year-old Redding man has been arrested for child molestation, and police say he had been hiding out at the victim’s mother’s house. An investigation began in April when the accusation was made by the child, who was 3-years-old at the time of the alleged molestation. Kenneth Eerkes was interviewed by RPD detectives, who say he admitted to the crime. Eerkes is also a suspect in multiple other child molestation cases out of state. An arrest warrant was issued by a Shasta County Judge last Friday charging Eerkes with lewd and lascivious acts with a child under age 14. Wednesday Eerkes was found hiding in the garage of the victim’s mother, Amanda Coleman. She was arrested for harboring a fugitive. Coleman’s children were taken from her in January, and they remain in protective custody.
