Man Who Left Ex-Wife With Life Threatening Injuries From Hatchet Attack Sentenced

A 37-year-old Gerber man has been sentenced for attacking his ex-wife with a hatchet. Last December 19th, Elby Charles Nye the Third paid a visit to his ex-wife’s apartment and waited for her to get home. As she was getting out of her car, Nye approached her and asked if he could come inside. She said “no” and turned away. That’s when Nye struck the back of her head three times with the sharp edge of a hatchet. She turned to fight him off and he head-butted her three times, and then left. She suffered life threatening injuries requiring surgery. He was captured in Proberta a short while later. Convicted of premeditated attempted murder with special allegations, Nye has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison.
