Fire crews are gaining ground on California’s largest fire of 2022, and damage assessment has begun. As of Sunday night the McKinney fire has burned 60,271 acres and is 40% contained. On Saturday the Forest Service reported that 134 structures were destroyed, including 87 homes. 4 people have been killed by the fire and much of the Community of Klamath River was destroyed. Over the weekend some evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings.

Some evacuation orders and warnings were reduced over the weekend for the Yeti Fire burning in the Seiad Valley of Siskiyou County. As of late Sunday night the fire has burned 8,029 acres and is 19% contained. Crews have seen reduced fire activity as the fire backs down to the Klamath River. Highway 96 remains closed in the fire zone. The Alex Fire is being managed as part of the Yeti Fire, and is 151 acres with 80% containment. The Forest Service hasn’t released any information on damage caused by the Yeti Fire.
