Chico Police say a man who assaulted and robbed a woman had conspired with the victim’s boyfriend. On April 28th the woman had just cashed the proceeds of her Camp Fire settlement and had around $60,000 in cash and debit cards in her purse. She had been shopping at the Chico Mall with her boyfriend, 27-year-old Nicholas Fitzgerald. As the couple walked out the exit, a man punched her in the face, took her purse and fled in a car. Chico Police detectives were very suspicious because of the circumstances and immediately began investigating Fitzgerald. That led them to the alleged robber, 33-year-old Jesse McLaughlin, who had been taken into custody on an unrelated case. Both Fitzgerald and McLaughlin face charges including conspiracy to commit robbery.
