Senior volunteers are needed for a program that brings the older generation and the younger generation together to help each other’s mental health. Shasta County has a very high level of adverse childhood experiences among young people and a lot of loneliness and depression among the elderly. Pathways to Hope for Children is looking for those 60 and older who would like to volunteer for the Hope Park Program. The older participants will all undergo background checks and attend a 20 hour volunteer academy before placement in the program. They will then be matched with a teen partner to take part in high adventure and teen center based activities, from white water rafting and horseback riding to cooking and woodworking. The next training session begins Thursday at 10AM at the Teen Center in the Hartnell and Churn Creek shopping center. Information is at hopeshasta.org or by calling 242-2020.
