The Six Rivers Lightning Complex is expected to be troublesome with warmer and drier weather in the next several days. The Six Rivers Complex is made up of six active fires, spread both north and south of Highway 299. They’ve burned a total of 14,000 acres in Trinity and Humboldt Counties, still with zero containment. The fires are burning on extremely steep, rugged and difficult to access terrain, making direct ground attack nearly impossible. The fuels at lower elevations are mostly downed hardwoods from last Winter’s snowstorms, while at higher elevations the fire is fueled by light timber understory and heavy logging slash on extremely steep grades. Threatened communities include Salyer and Willow Creek, as well as Hoopa Tribal areas. So far, no structures have been lost. Current evacuation orders can be found at community.zonehaven.com. An emergency forest closure is in effect for all roads, trails and land on the Lower Trinity Ranger District.
