A number of alternatives are being considered for Shasta County’s jail needs, and none of them are cheap. Acting County Executive Officer Pat Minturn will make a presentation at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting. He’ll say that any new project would take 4 to 8 years of committed effort, and the cost would end up being around $500,000 per bed. With an assumption that at least 800 beds will be needed, that far surpasses the wildest hopes of available funding. A variety of floor plans and locations will be presented.
