Teen Accused Of Fatal Stabbing Will Be Charged As An Adult

A boy who was 17-years-old when he was charged in the stabbing death of a Corning teenager at a party will be tried as an adult. Steele Stewart is now 18, but he was still a minor on April 16th. That’s when Tehama County Deputies, Corning Police and CHP Officers were called to a party on Ohio Avenue in Corning. It turned out out be a Quinceanera, a traditional Hispanic coming-of-age ceremony for a 15-year-old girl. About 200 people were there, and two stabbing victims were found. 14-year-old Efrain Vargas Jr was stabbed in the torso and later died. A 15-year-old boy was stabbed twice in the back, and he was soon released from the hospital. The motive remains unclear. The Tehama County DA’s Office said on Thursday they were given judicial approval to charge Stewart in adult court when he’s arraigned next Wednesday for first degree murder, attempted murder and other charges.
