The Redding City Council will be updated on the city’s efforts over the past 5 years to alleviate the city’s homeless situation. This includes the declaration of a shelter crisis, which facilitated the approval of emergency housing, including micro shelters, federal section 8 housing vouchers and hotel room leases. Staff will also report on the activities of police and other agencies, including the Crisis Intervention Response Team, Park Rangers, the NPU Bicycle Team, the Community Cleanup Program, shopping cart enforcement and more. Tuesday’s meeting begins at 6 O’clock

At Tuesday nights meeting, the Redding City Council will consider placing signs at some entrances to town that recognize the area as Wintu ancestral lands. The signs would be on the same pole with city limits signs and would read “Wintu Country”. The signs would be placed on Airport Road, Old Oregon Trail, Lake Boulevard, Quartz Hill, Placer and Clear Creek.

Another item, which will be considered in closed session, is listed as “existing litigation” and concerns a lawsuit against the city by Redding Rancheria, presumably from the land sale in South Redding that would have blocked access to the tribe’s proposed new casino site. A court ruling has already called the sale illegal.
