People affected by the Mill Fire in Siskiyou County can access an online interactive map to see if their homes are among the 91 confirmed destroyed, as damage assessment is still underway. The Mill Fire started Friday afternoon near the Roseburg Forest Products Mill in Weed and spread north to the Community of Lake Shastina. Two women in Weed, ages 66 and 73, were killed by the fast moving fire, and 3 other civilians were injured. The fire has been remapped at 3,935 acres and it’s now 65% containment. About 900 people remain evacuated as more than 400 structures are still threatened.
Activity Tuesday was moderate on the Mountain Fire, which started 9 miles southwest of the Community of Gazelle Friday afternoon. It’s burned 11,690 acres and is now 30% contained. The rough terrain makes full containment challenging. Two structures are confirmed destroyed and around 700 homes are threatened. Cal-Fire Law Enforcement in Siskiyou County have asked the public for help in identifying who or what started the Mountain Fire. They’ve established a tip line at 842-1022.
