For the first time since the Carr Fire caused devastation at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, the Park Service is inviting the public out for a harvest festival. The event includes heirloom apple tastings, an apple baking contest, cider press demonstrations, walking tours of the restored orchard and around Camden House, corn husk doll making, gold panning, croquet and more. Visitors must park at Oak Bottom and catch a free shuttle to the Tower House District. The festival is this Saturday from 10AM to 2PM. More details, including on how to enter the baking contest, are available at 242-3450.
