Redding Police had extra officers on duty Thursday and overnight last night. It was their monthly overlap day, when both weekday and weekend shifts are scheduled. The department uses the opportunity for training and special patrols. On Thursday four officers were assigned to bicycle patrol in addition to the regular bike team. They made 50 contacts, wrote 12 citations and arrested 2 people. For the overnight shift, four officers were sent out to patrol on all terrain motorcycles. The dirt bikes can access a lot of areas that can’t be reached by regular patrol cars. They made another 62 contacts, wrote 34 citations and arrested 2 more people.
